The Optica Laser Congress & Exhibition will be held from December 11-15 with the latest advances in lasers

This Sunday starts at the Barcelona International Convention Center (CCIB), managed by Fira de Barcelona, one of the most important congresses and exhibitions on lasers. A scientific event organized by Optica (formerly OSA) Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, the society dedicated to promoting the generation, application, archiving and dissemination of knowledge in the field. The conference will provide a comprehensive view of the latest advances in solid-state laser development along with recent new applications, such as devices for communications in free space or LIDAR for autonomous vehicles, among many others. It will do so with over 400 physicists, engineers and laser professionals from around the world who will participate in more than 45 technical sessions.

The Optica Laser Congress and Exhibition will be held at the CCIB from December 11-15 in hybrid format to accommodate virtual (online) participation and in-person attendance at the CCIB. The congress will feature three co-located meetings, special sessions, technical sessions and three plenary talks. The three topical meetings will provide a comprehensive view of solid-state lasers; applications of lasers for sensing and free space communications; and laser applications.

Over 45 technical sessions will feature topics on applications of numerous highly capable solid-state sources, beam steering, and materials modification, such as laser peening, micro-machining, and brittle material processing. The sessions will include presentations from 65 invited speakers and 200 contributed presentations – 106 oral and 94 poster presentations. An accompanying exhibition will feature the latest products resulting from these advances.

During the four-day meeting, attendees will be immersed in an innovative learning environment that showcases cutting-edge products, and engages their active participation in important debates and discussions,” said Laser Congress chairs David Mordaunt, Ball Aerospace & Technologies, United States; Yuji Sano, Institute for Molecular Science, Japan, and Johannes Trbola, Trbola Engineering, Germany.

In the 60 years since the first demonstration of the Laser, continuous progress in the development of lasers has led to numerous new applications and capabilities and this progress is continuing today. This conference provides a comprehensive view of the latest advances in solid-state laser development along with recent new applications. Of high interest are the high order nonlinear effects made possible by the development of ultra-high brightness and high power radiation sources.

Also covered are other sophisticated applications of numerous highly capable solid-state sources and associated devices for free space and quantum communications, LIDAR for autonomous vehicles, beam steering, and materials modification such as laser peening, micro-machining, and brittle material processing. The exhibition features the latest products resulting from these advances.
