The Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), managed by Fira de Barcelona, has renovated the lighting system of the CCIB Forum Auditorium with 305 dimmable light points that can be individually controlled using DMX technology, as well as new LED strips throughout the room’s stairways. This upgrade expands the staging possibilities of one of the venue’s most iconic spaces and offers new options to personalise the experience according to each event.
The new installation transforms lighting into a creative and scenic resource that goes beyond its practical function. It is now possible to highlight specific areas, create atmospheres, define routes or generate different scenes that complement the key moments of an event, without the need to physically modify the room.
305 light points installed in the CCIB Forum Auditorium can be dimmed and individually controlled using DMX technology, a system that enables highly precise lighting management by adjusting intensity and determining which areas are illuminated and when. This allows the technical team to configure the lighting according to the needs of each event and create lighting compositions that evolve throughout the event.
In this way, lighting becomes another element of the narrative and staging, capable of complementing the content, enhancing key moments and helping to create a distinctive experience for attendees.
The stairs, a new scenic resource
The renovation also includes new LED strips installed along all the staircases in the CCIB Forum Auditorium, combining functionality with creative possibilities. In addition to improving the visibility of the steps and facilitating the movement of attendees, they can also be integrated into the staging. The lighting allows sequences and effects to be created, pathways to be marked, or specific moments to be highlighted, such as a speaker’s entrance or exit, visually reinforcing those moments that are intended to stand out.
The Auditorium’s architecture itself helps enhance these effects. The room’s reflective ceiling allows light to be projected and visually multiplied, integrating the architectural elements into the staging and expanding the possibilities for creating different sensations and atmospheres from the same infrastructure.
With this renovation, CCIB introduces new possibilities for greater customisation and flexibility across its spaces. In the case of the CCIB Forum Auditorium, these enhancements respond to a growing demand from organisers and clients: creating distinctive events and increasingly personalised experiences.
More than 4,500 light points also in CCIB’s Multipurpose Hall
This improvement also extends to CCIB’s Multipurpose Hall, which features more than 4,500 individually dimmable and controllable light points using DMX technology. The system provides the same level of flexibility in managing the lighting, adapting it to each client’s needs and to the different moments of an event.
These initiatives form part of CCIB’s commitment to the continuous improvement of its spaces and services, with the aim of providing solutions that respond to the evolving needs of the industry and further strengthening the venue’s capacity to host national and international congresses, conventions and events. Ultimately, lighting is no longer simply a functional element, but an additional tool to shape, define and enhance the identity and impact of every event held at the CCIB.
