This Thursday, May 30th, marks the start of the main events of the 22nd edition of Primavera Sound, one of the largest music festivals in the country, recognized for bringing together a wide variety of musical genres. However, the festival officially began on Monday with concerts spread across different venues in Barcelona. Until June 2nd, nearly 300 performances will take place at Parc del Fòrum, a dozen of which will be held at the Auditori Fòrum CCIB. Among the artists headlining the festival are Lana del Rey, Pulp, Vampire Weekend, Rels B, Mushkaa, SZA, Mitski, Justice, and Disclosure, among others. Primavera Sound will conclude on Sunday with Brunch Electronik.
The Auditori Fòrum CCIB, part of the Barcelona International Convention Center (CCIB) and managed by Fira de Barcelona, will once again be the stage for some of the Primavera Sound concerts for the 18th consecutive edition since the festival moved from Poble Espanyol to Parc del Fòrum, where most of the outdoor performances take place.
With 3,084 seats and a 420 m² stage, the Auditori Fòrum CCIB is equipped with the latest technology and offers total sound isolation and excellent acoustics, making it one of the largest indoor concert venues. The space hosts around twenty shows annually, in addition to numerous events held at the CCIB. During these days, it will once again be the place where the festival’s most intimate proposals are presented, with concerts by Joanna Sternberg, ML Buch, Charlemagne Palestine, and Jessica Pratt, among others.
City and sustainability
Primavera Sound has once again included the Primavera a la Ciutat program, a parallel festival that ensures the festival resonates beyond Parc del Fòrum. It consists of a lineup of around fifty concerts spread across venues such as La Sala Apolo, La (2) d’Apolo, Razzmatazz, Paral·lel 62, La Nau, and LAUT. Performances have been taking place since Monday, May 27th, and will continue until Sunday, June 2nd.
This year, the sustainability of Primavera Sound will once again be evident from public transport to waste management. The T4 line will operate continuously throughout the festival nights, and there will be a shuttle bus service from Plaça Catalunya to Parc del Fòrum. Once inside the venue, there will be extensive use of reusable materials in elements such as signage and furniture.
Among other initiatives, the food area will offer a wide range of local gastronomic options, using compostable tableware and reusable cups. The stages will run on clean energy, and 85% of the festival’s bathrooms will have a consumption optimization system. The recirculation of wastewater will allow for a 90% saving of this resource.
